Doom
And as their world burned, The faerie queen laughed. Her guards looked at her With a start of surprise, Then at each other. One, with the knees trembling, Threw down sword and shield And fairly ran for his life. A third stared hard at her, His jaw working furiously From beneath his beard. The rest cast their gaze Down forlornly to earth. And the gleaming- Hide monsters Rumbled on, Cutting swaths, Below. The queen, with her back to each guard, Stood apart at cliff's edge, still laughing; Yet tears flowed unbidden from her eyes.
